Frank Chubski
|
|
The OFFC’s Chubski Fly Tying Roundtable is named after Frank Chubski. Frank was a founding member of the OFFC and served as OFFC President in 1989. It was unfortunate that he was unable serve only a portion of his term because of his death from cancer in July 1989. Francis Smith took the office of President for the remainder of 1989. The Frank Chubski Fly Tying Roundtable was established following Frank’s death and the first roundtable was held on November 9, 1989. During World War II Frank was a navigator with the US Army Air Corp, and he joined the Boeing Company following the war. Those that fished with him said he was very good at it. He enjoyed spending time on the Kenai River in Alaska and he had a 65 pound Kenai River king salmon that he had caught there mounted and displayed in his home in Bellevue. Frank was also a very good wine maker and often brought out a bottle or two of his wine when OFFC board meetings were held at his house. In the early 1980s OFFC member Steve Hatch, and Frank, flew to the Dean River in Canada for what they thought would be a wonderful fishing trip. It turned out to be a bust fishing wise, but they said they had a great time camping! Frank owned a place at O’Sullivan Dam in eastern Washington where he enjoyed duck and goose hunting. Frank was one of those people with a ready smile and you couldn’t help but like him when you first met him. He was outgoing, caring, and everyone’s friend. He played a major part in the founding of the Overlake Fly Fishing Club. |
